Last year Chron.com told you about the sprawling Flat Creek Estate, an award-winning winery in the Texas Hill Country that was for sale. Now the property is getting ready to change hands.
Barbara Van Dyke with Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty said Friday that there is a sale pending on the massive property, which was on the market for $10 million in February 2016.

Van Dyke said that the former owners were looking to retire and hand the vines and reins over to younger hands.
In addition to 20 acres of vineyards, the property includes a wine-production facility and tasting room, a restaurant and events building, a covered outdoor pavilion, office building, work-out space and guest house. On the north side of Lake Travis, Flat Creek Estate is about 50 miles northwest of Austin.

Each year, the winery produces more than 10,000 cases of wine.

Bell Mountain, billed as the oldest winery in Fredericksburg, also has a sale under contract according to Van Dyke. The soon-to-be former owner of the winery off Highway 16 is 90 years old and was looking for someone to take it off her hands.

Van Dyke said Highway 16 is looking to be the next big winery row in the Fredericksburg area, which already has more wineries and tasting rooms that you can handle. For many people owning and operating one of these is a lifelong dream.
It comes with a heady history too. The federal government certified it in 1986 as Texas’ first wine-growing area.
“It’s not easy, as there is always a lot of restoration and replanting that goes into it but people want to develop something themselves,” Van Dyke said.
